The Representative Council of the Student Union of the University of the Eastern Finland (ISYY) approved the action plan for the year 2019 in its meeting (9/2018) on 4th December 2018. In addition, the Representative Council elected new chairpersons for the Sections of the Student Union.
The following projects have been entered into ISYY’s action plan for the coming year:
1. Election year 2019
2. Advocacy can be interesting
3. Our ISYY – revised strategy
4. An independent ISYY – business cooperation and other fund-raising
5. ISYY cares about the environment
2019 will be an important election year and ISYY has already prepared its own objectives for the elections. ISYY strives to raise its members’ interest in voting in the parliamentary elections, European Parliament elections and in the possible regional elections. ISYY sets the voter turnout in the ISYY Representative Council elections to 35 %. In addition, in 2019 ISYY will develop its communication on interest advocacy.
ISYY also revises its strategy to prepare, for example, for the possible abolition of automatic membership. In addition to strategy, ISYY prepares a medium-term financial plan, investigates the needs for developing its kiosk operations and clarifies the guidelines for business cooperation. In 2019, the environment shall be taken into account in all ISYY’s operations.
In addition to its five projects, the action plan also included descriptions of continuous action which include, for example, the following matters. In 2019, ISYY organises its 9-year-Anniversary-Party and investigates the opportunity to make the Anniversary Party an annual tradition. The Equality Plan made in 2018 will be taken into action and ISYY will actively encourage the University to make the second Educational Psychologist’s position permanent. The Communications Strategy and the Communications Instructions will be updated to meet the current requirements, international communications will be strengthened and also interaction between ISYY and Student Organisations and Clubs will be increased. Also, training offered to Student Organisations will be developed.
The description of continuous action also includes entries involving the Representative Council which will aim at promoting equality and cooperation between campuses as well as supporting decision making.
ISYY’s Representative Council also elected new chairpersons for the Student Union Sections of Advocacy, Student Organisations and Recreation (for both campuses). The new chairpersons are:
The Section for Advocacy (Joensuu): Joose Korhonen
The Section for Student Organisations (Joensuu): Saara Loukiainen
The Section for Recreation (Joensuu): Miska Tanskanen
The Section for Recreation (Kuopio): Matti Averio
New chairpersons of the Section for Advocacy and Section for Student Organisations in Kuopio will be elected later.
The decisions made by the Representative Council willl be executed by the ISYY Executive Board 2019 elected on the 4th of December 2018.
