UEF became recognised as a Fair Trade University

The University of Eastern Finland became the sixth Fair Trade University in Finland on 13.5.2014. The distinction means that Fair Trade coffee and tea is served in the events of the University of Eastern Finland and the Student Union, and all the campus restaurants and cafeterias offer Fair Trade products. Awareness of Fair Trade is also actively promoted, and the university will, among other things, participate in the Fair Trade Week in October.

Being awarded the Fair Trade University distinction requires the fulfillment of certain criteria. These include increasing the use of Fair Trade products and raising awareness of the benefits of Fair Trade for farmers in developing countries.
