ISYY: puts forward Matias Vainio as candidate for the position of President of OLL for the year 2015
The Executive Board member of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY), Matias Vainio, has been put forward as candidate for the position of President of the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL) for the year 2015. ISYY’s Representative Council nominated Vainio as its candidate on Saturday 20th of September in Tuusniemi.
The upcoming Parliamentary Elections are important for developing and increasing the appreciation of university sports. The Finnish Student Sports Federation must be influencing the next Government Programme in order to improve students’ well-being.
–As much as 69% of university students don´t exercise enough. Health issues resulting from physical inactiveness and excessive sitting during the day weaken the students’ overall well-being. Appreciation of university sports and exercise services must be increased both nationally and locally, states Vainio.
Another important factor in the coming year will be the change in the membership structure when the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) separates from OLL at the beginning of 2015.
– The student unions that decided to apply for the membership of OLL will certainly examine their memberships critically during the next year to assess whether it is in their interest, notes Vainio.
Matias Vainio has had a significant role this year in developing the university sports services in Eastern Finland, as well as in starting the Stand Up For Your Health campaign against excessive sitting. While acting in ISYY, Vainio has gained experience in local political lobbying and has actively participated in meetings organised by OLL.
– During this year, Matias has shown to be a goal-oriented and open-minded political trustee of sports. He has a lot to offer to the Finnish Student Sports Federation as the President next year, says Noora Kettunen, the Chair of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland.
The Finnish Student Sports Federation will elect the Executive Board for the next year on 13.–14.11. in the assembly in Vierumäki
