ISYY proposes Paula Martikainen for the SYL Executive Board for the year 2015
The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) has nominated Paula Martikainen as its candidate for the Executive Board of the National Union of University Students in Finland (SYL) for the year 2015. Martikainen studies pedagogy at the Savonlinna campus of the University of Eastern Finland. The decision on the nomination was made by ISYY’s Representative Council in its meeting on 20.9.2014 in Tuusniemi.
In spring 2015, SYL’s main task is to influence the Parliamentary Elections and the Government Programme. SYL and the Student Unions together must execute a visible campaign in order to get the university students’ objectives included in the Government Programme. Coverage should be gained both in traditional and social media.
– Paula’s experience in communications as well as her interest in the Parliamentary Elections and the Government Programme combined with her conscientiousness and perseverance make her an excellent trustee. Paula is exactly what the SYL Executive Board 2015 needs, comments the Chair of ISYY’s Representative Council Noora Kettunen.
This year, Martikainen has worked as the Chair of ISYY’s Executive Board. In 2013, Martikainen worked as ISYY’s Executive Board member and was in charge of communications and tutoring.
– One year as ISYY’s Executive Board member and another as its Chair have qualified me for advocacy and lobbying work in the field. During these years, I have become familiar with the Finnish Student Unions and other important interest groups. I have seen the student movement from several angles, and therefore, I am interested in working as the Vice-President of the National Union Of University Students in Finland Executive Board, Martikainen says.
The next President and the Executive Board of SYL will be elected by the General Assembly on 21.–22.11.2014 in Korpilampi, Espoo.
