The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland
20.11.2017
The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) has the honor to invite all students to the Independence Day Torch Parade on 6.12.2017 in Joensuu. The Torch Parade is one of the oldest and most respected traditions of the Student Union.
Before the parade, participants are welcomed to enjoy a warm serve “glögi” (a traditional Finnish Christmas non-alcoholic drink) at ISYY’s office (Haltia, Yliopistokatu 7) starting from 3 pm.
The parade starts at the ISYY´s office, where students are asked to arrive at the latest at 3.45 pm. The parade will depart at 4 pm and walk to the memorial grounds through Joensuu downtown. Robert Kuhlmann, the Board member of Karelia-ammattikorkeakoulun opiskelijakunta POKA, and Matti Nivala, the Vice Chair of ISYY Board will give speeches at the memorial grounds. We will also lay a wreath on the soldiers’ grave followed by the Finnish National Anthem.
This year, everyone who wants to join the Torch Parade can do so. You can bring your own flashlight or led light with you.
ISYY welcomes you to join us in creating an Independence Day with a student outlook, but please leave your student overalls home this time!
Best Wishes,
Joensuun Campus Committee
