Call for applications: Executive Board 2016 of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland seeks additional member

Are you interested in gaining memorable experiences? Looking for an opportunity for personal growth? Are you interested in building a better university? What about influencing the society? Apply for the Student Union’s Executive board for the autumn 2016!

The Executive Board of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) 2016 is looking for an additional member. The new board member will be appointed at the meeting of the Student Union Representative Board on 15.9.2016. Those interested in applying for the Executive Board should send their contact details to the Student Union (hakemukset@isyy.fi). The Executive Board is primarily looking for a person to take charge of the international affairs sector.  The application period is 15.8-29.8.2016.

In case you wish to be a part of the Executive Board, please express your interest by sending a motivation letter to ISYY. Also include a short introduction of yourself and your resume. The documents should be sent  to hakemukset(at)isyy.fi no later than 29.8.2016 12 a.m.

ISYY’s Executive Board – what is it?

• 46 of the Universities Act states the following about the purpose of a student union:

“The purpose of the student union is to act as a link between its members and to promote their societal, social and intellectual aspirations and their aspirations regarding studies and students’ status in society. The student union shall participate in the performance of the educational mission of the university referred to in Section 2 by preparing students for an active, cognizant and critical citizenship.”

The Executive Board of the Student Union provides a gateway to the core of student policy. The Board is the essence of the Student Union.

The Representative Council elects the Board’s 6–10 members annually, and the Board is run by a chairperson. The Board is the executive body of the Student Union. It implements the decisions of the Representative Council, represents the Student Union and monitors the economy of the Student Union together with the Secretary General and the Committee for Economic Affairs.

The Board works in close cooperation with the committees and sections. Members of the Student Union can influence the Board’s statements and comments, and have their opinions heard in the Board through the committees and sections. During the year, the Board members have meetings regularly, travel around Finland cooperating with other Student Unions as well as represent the Student Union in different events, meetings and Committees. The Board members also receive a compensation for their commission of trust.

The Council of Representative elects the Board for a one-year term at the end of each year.

All eligible members of the Student Union can stand as candidates for the Board.
