Riina Tykkyläinen, 24-year-old Master’s student in Social Sciences, has started as a trainee at The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY). Tykkyläinen studies fifth year at the University of Jyväskylä majoring Social and Public Policy.
During the spring 2020 Tykkyläinen will carry out student profile survey to the Student Union.
– My enthusiasm for the student profile study aroused right when I heard that similar university-specific investigations have not been done before. University students are nowadays very diverse group, so it’s also in the student’s best interest to find out what kind of people study at the University of Eastern Finland. In this way, not only the Student Union but also the University can improve its operations and services so that they meet the needs of the students even better, Tykkyläinen considers.
In Riina’s opinion, carrying out the survey is not as tedious as it may first sound.
– I started my traineeship two weeks ago and I have already got to do a lot of different things: making a survey includes many steps and collaboration with other people. I also get to write a lot, which I truly enjoy. In addition I’ll get to create a questionnaire from the very beginning and deepen my SPSS skills even more, says Tykkyläinen excited about his traineeship which will last until the beginning of June.
The research will be conducted as a survey online. The focus group of the research is students who are present at the UEF during spring semester 2020 and are studying in bachelor’s or master’s degree programmes.
Study’s sample will be based on random sample taken from the student register of the UEF. Invitation to the survey will be sent 6.4.2020 via email to the students who were picked to the sample.
