HAPPY TUESDAY!

Enrollment for Sport Afternoon's activities opens today! There is a huge selection of things to do and the best part is that you do not need a SYKETTÄ membership in order to participate. (However, you have to be registered as a SYKETTÄ user so that you are able to enroll.) Be fast since there is a limited number of places for most of the activities and they fill up pretty quickly.

Language Café selection is posted to ISYY's website!

ISYY's Language Cafés are starting, so take a look at the selection and join a Language Café(s) of your choice!

There are no physical cafés on Kuopio campus this spring, but there is a Finnish Language Café for intermediate students held online that you could join!

Language Cafés are informal language classes taught by students for students in an informal and friendly environment. Read more via the link below and join the Cafés by signing up via this Google Forms by 2 February 12 pm (noon).

ISYY is giving out grants for international activities!

The grant is for events and projects that promote internationalisation in 2024 and is meant for student associations, campus associations and ISYY clubs.

We are looking for activities that in addition to promoting internationalisation and international affairs in the campus cities, are repeatable and reproducible, are sustainable long-term, are environmentally friendly, innovative and creative, and take both degree students and exchange students into account. Cooperation with other associations and clubs is also considered an advantage.

Two best applications will receive a grant of 400 €. Application period is from February 1st till February 29th.

Registration to the ISYY 14th Annual Celebration will begin soon!

ISYY’s 14th Annual Celebration will be held on Friday 15 March in Sokos Hotel Kimmel, Penttilä Hall. Registration for the celebration will begin this week on Thursday 1 February at 12.00 pm (noon). Before the start of the registration, we will update more info about the event to the event page. We hope to see you in our celebration!

ECTS credits from 2023 positions of trust can now be applied

According to the accepted education plan of UEF, a student can be given ECTS credits for participating in student association or ISYY club work, for acting in the administrative body or working groups of the Student Union, University or in another body of a cooperating organisation or for participating in international association or ISYY club work.

ISYY has now opened the application period for credits for the positions of trust in 2023. The ECTS credits can be applied until 29.2.2024.

ISYY Council meeting 2/2024 on Sunday 4 February

ISYY Council will hold their first meeting of the year on Sunday 4 February 2024 at 10 am at Kunnonpaikka, Kuopio.

In the meeting, the ISYY Council will, among other things, elect members for the Rules Committee and Finance Committee, establish other necessary committees and decide the amount of remuneration for the Chairpersons of the Representative Council.

You are welcome to follow the meeting in Kunnonpaikka. Meeting Notice can be found from the ISYY website, Documents section.

Finnish Presidential election's 2nd round begins on Wednesday

The 2nd round of the Finnish Presidential Election will be held 11 February 2024 and the advance voting will begin on Wednesday 31 January. There will be advance polling stations available on both UEF campuses, Joensuu and Kuopio, during the advance voting.

To have a right to vote, you must be a citizen of Finland, who has reached the age of 18.

The advance polling station in Kuopio campus can be found from ISYY office (Studentia, C-door) and it is open 31.1.-2.2. and 5.-6.2. at 10-16.

Open positions for Student Representatives

ISYY has opened a supplementary call for positions of Student Representatives in UEF Administrative Bodies that were not filled when the call was open in autumn 2023. ISYY has also opened a call for Student Representatives in Language Center's Development Team. The term of offices ends on 31 December 2025. After the Student Representative's term, a representative can apply for 1-3 ECTS according to UEF’s education plan.

The following positions are open:

1 (one) Student deputy member in the University collegiate
1 (one) Student deputy member in the faculty council of the Faculty of Sciences, Forestry, and technique
4 (four) Student deputy members in the faculty council of Health Sciences
4 (four) Student deputy members in the faculty council of Philosophical Faculty
2 (two) Student members in the development group of Language Center

The positions must be applied by 16 February 2024 at 12 pm (noon).

Nutrition counseling

SYKETTÄ Nutrition Services offers nutrition counseling every Wednesday at 4:00 pm and 4:30 pm. If you have anything food and nutrition related you would like to discuss with a specialist and you hold a valid sports sticker, you can book a 30 minute appointment through SYKETTÄ Sports calendar to come and discuss with our SYKETTÄ nutrition specialist.

Here are some examples of the topics that can be discussed during the appointment:

How to eat to compliment your training and to recover well
Help with special diets, for example, if you are considering vegetarian diet or would like to lose weight in healthy way
What to choose from the grocery store in order to eat according to a balanced and affordable diet?

Sports afternoon on 13.2. - enrollment opens on 30.1.

Hello UEF student! The Sports Afternoon for Kuopio university community is taking place on February 13, 2024, starting at 12:00, and we invite you to join in the joy of movement!

The sports day is open to members of the Kuopio university community, and participants don't need to have a SYKETTÄ sticker.

How does an afternoon at a trampoline park, bouldering, or trying out an entirely new sport sound to you? Or perhaps you'd like to take part in a combined sports trial or enjoy a leisurely horseback ride in the scenic surroundings of Savisaari? This and much more awaits you in the programme of the sports day!

NEW! In celebration of SYKETTÄ's 10th anniversary, get ready for the thrill of a kick sled race!

Gather a team of 4 and join the sports day to kick your way to fantastic prizes! The top three teams will be rewarded with, for example, Luoto Kuopio sauna experiences and other amazing prizes.

Enrollment for the sports day events generally opens on Tuesday, January 30, exactly 14 days before the start of each event. More detailed instructions and the programme for the sports day can be found on SYKETTÄ Kuopio website.

SYKETTÄ Kuopio tutors

Do you want to play easygoing floorball, see how it is like in dance class, or maybe get to know the university gyms? SYKETTÄ tutors will help!

SYKETTÄ tutors have a weekly shift at Studentia on Mondays at 16-17 completely free of charge and without a SYKETTÄ sticker. It is also possible to go to a group exercise class with the tutor, or you can for example ask the tutor to go for a run with you!

The tutor shift starts in February and during the first time on Monday 5.2. there is going to be easygoing floorball.

Student Tutors Needed for Next Autumn Semester! Would You Like to Be a Student Tutor?

If you study in a Bachelor’s or a Master’s degree programme at UEF and you are interested in helping the new students, you can apply as a student tutor.

The student tutor helps the new students to have a smooth start for their studies. All the new students have a student tutor. And each tutor has a group of tutees.

Tutoring offers many opportunities to learn, for example to develop your communication and coordinating skills.

The tutors will be trained for the job, and they will receive credits and a certificate on tutoring. The application period will be 23 Jan - 4 Feb 2024.

ISYY's Movie Club Hyvät Kuvat Spring Season begins this week

ISYY's Movie Club called Hyvät Kuvat will start their spring season this week on Thursday 1 February. The club presents 12 movies during the spring on Thursdays at 5.30 pm at the Cinema Kino Kuvakukko (adress: Vuorikatu 27).

The Club sells seasonal tickets, which gives you access to all of the spring 2024 movies. It is not possible to buy a seperate tickets. The price for students is 25€ and for others 30€. The tickets are sold from ISYY offices (card or cash) or from the Cinema Kinokuvakukko (only cash) before every act. The tickets are also sold from Kide.app (the ticket must be collected from Kino Kuvakukko before the act).

Are you an exchange student? Hyvät Kuvat Movie Club provides 50 free seasonal tickets for exchange students, who are members of ISYY. You can collect your free seasonal ticket only from ISYY office and tha ticket must be collected personally.

Fleamarket day 10.2.

Kulti ry organises a flea market day with ESN KISA on February 10, 2024. The event is located in Studentia Lukema, and is open all day Saturday from 9 am to 3 pm.

As a new exchange student you might still need something, and will find it from flea market. There is also a cafe, where you can buy salty and sweet food during the event. We have also planned a unique OVERALL PATCH, which can only be bought at the event. The event accepts cash payment/Mobile Pay.

Student’s Valentine’s Day event at the Kuopio Market Square 14.2.

A Valentine's Day event will be organised in Kuopio Market Square 14 February at 18-19. At the same time the Finnish Public Service Media Company YLE will be there to film “Winter City of the Year” (Kuopio) content. They are waiting for a lot of students to join the event!

During the event in the Market Square there will be music, sled hill, short ski jumping, overall patches on sale, and a Student’s Snow Sculpting Competition. Welcome!

Nyyti Chat

Nyyti’s Chat is a place for sharing thoughts, feelings and experiences. The group chat is meant for all students over the age of 18. Chat is anonymous. There will always be Nyyti’s volunteers or employees at the chat with you. Always remember to behave according to the principles for a safer space.

Feel free to come along, don’t worry about spelling or fluency – the most important thing is to be involved!

If you would like to have something featured in the Weekly Feed, please send a short (max. 500 characters including spaces), informative description of the event/activity in English to either kv.kuopio@isyy.fi (Kuopio events) or kv.joensuu@isyy.fi (Joensuu events).
