ISYY also organises a student torch parade every year in Kuopio and Joensuu. In the parades, we celebrate the independence of Finland which gives us freedom to study, come together and be who we want to be. In the Torch Parades, we also want to commemorate the part students played in the creation of the independent Finnish state. The Torches bring light to the dark December night. You are warmly welcome to join the Parade as a participant or a spectator this year!

The highlight of the day has traditionally been watching the broadcast of the glamorous Presidential Independence Day reception (Linnanjuhlat)! The reception has been an annual tradition since 1919 and roughly 2000 guests receive an invitation to the event, such as members of the government and parliament of Finland, war veterans, diplomats, and other public figures and skilled individuals the President chooses to invite.

Snellmania gym is not in use in December due the renovation

Exciting news for SYKETTÄ members! Snellman Gym is getting a major makeover around the turn of the year!

In the new year, you'll be able to work out with brand new equipment. The tatami will be transformed into a functional training area, and the gym equipment will be upgraded to the next level!

Get ready to pedal your way into the holiday season with the Spinning Marathon and SYKETTÄ goes Christmas!

Join us for the highly anticipated Spinning Marathon on Tuesday, December 10th, with a non-stop 2.5-hour cycling session!

And on Wednesday, December 11th, the SYKETTÄ goes Christmas event will take place at the Studentia sports hall. Enjoy a fun-filled functional workout from 4 pm to 4.55 pm, followed by a soothing body care class from 5 pm to 5.55 pm.

Registration opens exactly one week before the event.

SYKETTÄ Kuopio 

SYKETTÄ includes sport services for the students and staff members in University of Eastern Finland and Savonia University of Applied Sciences as well as students and staff members of Uniarts in Kuopio. SYKETTÄ has a diverse sports calendar which features more than 40 weekly sports classes and takes into account all movers from beginners to more advanced.

Make a difference in Kuopio – Join the International Kuopio Student Committee!

Are you an international student in Kuopio who wants to improve daily life in Kuopio for other students like you? The International Kuopio Student Committee is your chance to gain hands-on experience in networking, influencing, and shaping the future of Kuopio. 

What is the Kuopio International Student Committee? 

The Kuopio International Student Committee is a new group starting in early 2025. Its goal is to improve the daily life and well-being of international students in Kuopio. In the committee you’ll get to share your ideas and make Kuopio a better place for all international students. Any international student from UEF, Savonia and Sakky can apply to join the committee. 

Traditional Christmas Party on Kuopio Campus 16.12.

Traditional Christmas party for the staff and students on the Kuopio Campus will be held on Monday, 16 December, at 14:00, in the Great lecture hall SN100 of the Snellmania building.

Independence Day concert: Male choir Kuopio Quartet

The concert is held on Fri 6.12. at 15-16.30 in Kuopio Cathedral (Vuorikatu 17). Free admission.

The programme includes Independence Day classics for male choirs, both traditional and completely new arrangements for the Kuopio Quartet. The songs in the concert will take you to the roots of Finnish identity and to Eastern Finnish mental landscapes.
