HAPPY TUESDAY!

If you're passionate about languages, join ISYY's second online Language Café info today at 4.15 pm and learn about the Language Café activities.

Language Cafés are informal language classes taught by students for students in an informal and friendly environment. The Cafés are based on volunteer work and they give students an opportunity to learn a language they are interested in. For UEF students, it is possible to earn ECTS credits by being a participant (1 ECTS) or a leader (2 ECTS).

Have a nice week!

Kind regards,
Elina

Learn new languages!

Do you want to learn new languages, brush up your old skills and meet new people or teach your native language? We have the perfect opportunity for you!

In a Language Café, your peers and friends are your teachers and at the same time, they can be your students. When participating in Language Café activities, you can also earn ECTS credits by either attending or organising a Language Café (UEF students only) and by submitting a few small assignments to Moodle.

Join the Language Café info session on Tuesday 24 January at 4.15 pm on Google Meet to find out more! The content of the sessions is the same so you can choose which time suits you better. You can find the links to the meetings on ISYY’s website.

The parliamentary election campaign of students has begun!

Every student in higher education must be guaranteed the opportunity to study without income insecurity or scarcity. Investing in students' success is an investment in our future.

Many students live below the poverty line, even if they are taking out full student loans or working while studying. Since 2017, student loan debt has doubled and the purchasing power of study grant has weakened by around 100 euros. The rising cost of living and brutally rising interest rates are still eating into students' livelihoods.

This is unsustainable. Having an appropriate income is essential for future professionals to be able to cope, survive at work and have a good mental well-being. Student incomes must be strengthened. This benefits the whole country and the future.

A 100 euro increase in study grant is needed. Let's raise students above the poverty line!

Follow the higher education students' parliamentary election campaign on Instagram @poiskoyhyysrajalta or in other social media channels #PoisKöyhyysrajalta.

Visit Finnish schools during your stay in Finland

While in Finland, would you like to visit a Finnish school? School visits can be carried out in any classes – in subjects such as languages, history, geography, sports, arts, cooking, biology, religion and student counselling. You can also take part in a theme day organised by the local school, e.g. an international day. Your school visit makes a difference to the pupils!

You don’t need to be an actual teacher, but a visitor who brings something new to the class. By visiting the school, you will encourage pupils to get to know new people from different countries and cultures. Your visit can also encourage pupils to learn about the possibilities of study abroad or international volunteering. The visit is also an opportunity for you to follow classes and see how pupils study in Finland.

How to sign up for a visit?

You can register to the Erasmus in Schools programme through the Matching Machine platform. You will receive a notification by email once you have been matched with a school. After that, you can plan your visit together with the teacher.

  • Follow us on Facebook.
  • If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us: erasmusinschools@oph.fi
