Hello and wow, how September is coming to an end already! It also means that next week we will be enjoying Wellbeing Week! Right at the beginning of the week on Monday 30.9. Care Dogs arrive on the campuses from 12 pm to 2 pm (pst... ISYY board members also serve free coffee to dog petters). Registration for the Tiilikkajärvi Day Trip also ends on Monday, but you should register right away before the available seats run out!

Wellbeing Week will be held for the eleventh time at the University of Eastern Finland from 30th of September to 6th of October 2024. The aim of the Wellbeing Week is to offer UEF students and staff a wellbeing promoting programme throughout the week. During Wellbeing Week, a variety of activities will be organised to provide tools to increase one's own wellbeing and support the ability to concentrate.

SYKETTÄ Kuopion Appro and Free sport week 30.9.-6.10.

SYKETTÄ Appro is a sports appro organised by the Student Union of University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) and Student union of Savonia University of Applied Sciences (SAVOTTA) for students in Eastern Finland. SYKETTÄ Appro will be held between 30th of September and 6th of October as a part of free sports trial of the SYKETTÄ Kuopio sport services.

The basic idea of SYKETTÄ Appro is that the participants pick up the appro passport and collect markings from the SYKETTÄ sport events they take part in. Each sport performance is worth one mark. The participants who return their passport can take part in a lottery to win prizes and get an overall badge.

There is a limited number of Appro passports and overall badges in ISYY's office so be quick! Read more here.

Free sport week

We invite all students and staff in UEF, Savonia and Uniarts to exercise with us FOR FREE between 30th of September and 6th of October! Our goal is an active, well-being and social university community in Kuopio.

During that week you can try our SYKETTÄ classes for free (excluding Luola gym and trainer service). How about BodyCombat, trampoline workout or the fan favourite indoor cycling? Or maybe try everything!

Free YUFE Academy lecture

YUFE’s open for all free lectures Autumn 2024 edition has started. Upcoming lectures in English: 

• Fri 11.10. klo 13‒14.30 Roles of law in implementing the EU Green Deal / Professor Niko Soininen, Professor Seita Vesa and Associate Professor Kaisa Huhta (in English)

• The ticket must be purchased at the Kuopio Music Centre Ticket Sales on the day of the concert
• Persons under the age of 20 are also entitled to the discount price
• A student card / identity card must be presented when purchasing the ticket
• The discount price applies if there is still room in the concert hall

If you wish to purchase the student ticket in advance the price is 11 euros and tickets can also be purchased at www.lippu.fi.

World CP Day Webinar 4.10.2024: When health and function decline

Changes in health and function often occur early in adulthood in individuals with Cerebral Palsy. In recognition of World CP Day, join us online to learn about the reasons behind these declines, how strength training can enhance well-being, and insights from the development of a customized course for managing fatigue.

Topics of the webinar:

• How CP affects the functioning of individuals over 30 years old.
• Effectiveness and safety of strength training.
• Fatigue Management for Adults with Cerebral Palsy

To whom?

The webinar is primarily for professionals (for example physicians, allied health care professionals and therapists) but people with CP and their families are very welcome and encouraged to attend.

The presentations will be held in English. The webinar is free of charge.

Appro, often translated as bar crawl, is a student event where you visit as many bars as you can and collect stamps from them. One drink or a a food portion at each bar equals one stamp. At the end, you’ll receive overall badges according to the number of stamps; the more the merrier!

Get help with career planning

Mentoring can help you find your strengths and areas for development and encourage you to take on new challenges. Also, the mentors can get new energy and fresh perspectives on their work through students and other talents (actors).

How to apply?

Application for the spring 2025 group mentoring programme is open until 1.10.2024. International students and other talents affiliated in Eastern Finland are eligible to apply.

The mentors leading the groups are professionals/employer organisations from different fields and diverse backgrounds. You will be placed in a mentoring group according to your preference of the mentor (please study the available list of mentor profiles carefully), and give your selection in the application form (you need to select 5 suitable mentor options for you in the order of your preference).

If you would like to have something featured in the Weekly Feed, please send a short (max. 500 characters including spaces), informative description of the event/activity in English to either kv.kuopio@isyy.fi (Kuopio events) or kv.joensuu@isyy.fi (Joensuu events).
