If you want to practice Finnish, there is a Finnish Language Café in Neulamäki library (Juontotie 6) today at 5 pm. Participating in the Language Café is free and there is coffee and tea available. Also, Kompassi is starting an evening Finnish course next week. The course organised by Kompassi has a participation fee and the sign-up ends this Thursday, 27 March.

Experience Finnish Vappu Celebration in Savo-Karjala Excursion

Savo-Karjala Excursion is one of the most famous and popular May Day celebration traditions of the Student Union (ISYY). The first Savo-Karjala Excursion was organised in 1990. The event is held every year in Joensuu and Kuopio on 29th April despite the day of the week.

During the Savo-Karjala Excursion, students circle around the North Savo and the North Karelia regions on buses on a predetermined route, which will remain a secret until the buses start their journey, and enjoy refreshments in different bars and restaurants along the way. 

To attend the event, it is not required that you can speak Finnish. The most important thing is that you and your friends have fun and you can keep up in the schedule of the bus. If there are English speaking people in the buses, we'll ask the bus leaders to give all the important information about the schedule in English.

Ticket sales start on Thursday 3 April 8 am at ISYY office (in Studentia building, C entrance, Yliopistonranta 15). The remaining tickets, if there are any, will go on sale on Kide.app on the next day at 11 am. The ticket price is 20 €. One person can buy a maximum of two tickets.

Municipal and County Elections

This April 2025 we will be having the Municipal and County Elections, and there is only a week left before the advance voting period begins!

Don’t know who you are going to cast a vote for yet? Don't worry! The Student Unions in Joensuu and Kuopio, meaning ISYY, SAVOTTA, POKA and HUMAKO are organising events that might help you to find a candidate to vote for.

The library is invoicing overdue and reservation fees at the end of March

We are invoicing unpaid overdue and reservation fees at the end of March. We send the bills by e-mail. You can avoid the invoicing by paying your fees in advance on UEF Primo or at Joensuu or Kuopio campus library. The minimum limit for online payment is 1 euro, a payment card is accepted on the spot. Valmiiksi säröillä – The Well-being Repair Tour visits Kuopio 27.3.!

Well-being Repair Tour in Kuopio March 27, 1PM – 3 PM, at Savonia University of Applied Sciences, Kampussydän (Microkatu 1).

University students are also warmly welcome to attend that event!

The event will feature: 

• Well-being Bingo based on science and research – with a chance to win various well-being-related prizes! 
• Expert speed dating, where students can easily connect with professionals working in different areas of well-being, such as health, finances, skills development, housing, and community. 
• Laughter and entertainment with stand-up performances by Roosa Maskonen (2023 Stand-up Newcomer of the Year) and Arttu Järvinen (2022 Stand-up Newcomer of the Year)! Please notice that this part of the event will be in Finnish.  

In addition, free coffee, tea, and snacks will be available for all attendees.

The concert consists of compositions based on texts by Finnish poets. The concert will include never-before-heard compositions as well as more familiar songs. Free admission.

Drawing Out Loud: Art workshop for queer people, Wed 26.3. at 17-19

In the workshop aimed at adults, we explore the world by drawing and through various listening and sensing exercises. Previous experience in artistic work, neither tools are not required. Free of charge.

Coffee & Friends 

The café meets on Tuesdays at 3-5 pm at Lukema in Kuopio.

Coffee & Friends event offers low-threshold hanging out after lectures and the opportunity to meet other students over coffee and a snack. All students of the University of Eastern Finland are welcome to Coffee & Friends. You can come to the café alone or with a friend. In addition, Coffee & Friends has a changing chill programme. Participation in the programme is voluntary and you can come for a while or for the whole time. Participation is free of charge and does not require pre-registration.

Library Language Cafés

The Library Language Cafés are open, relaxed events where you can practice speaking Finnish in a comfortable atmosphere. When you strike up a conversation, it’s easy to get to know new people and cultures. Of course, you can also participate just by listening! Library staff will also take part in the games and conversations and collect ideas for future gatherings.

The events are free of charge, and need no signing up. Coffee and tea available. Welcome!
