HAPPY TUESDAY!

BRIDGES has a lot going on again. If you haven't visited Koli yet, you now have a chance to go there with the BRIDGES project for free! Or if you have been to Koli already, you could go again and enjoy the scenery or the spa. The sign-up is open in Kide.app until Friday 24 March and the trip is on Saturday 1 April. Read more about the trip from the BRIDGES section of this newsletter. Also the very popular BRIDGES breakfasts are available again. Get your free ticket from Kide.app before they are all gone!

This Sunday March 19 Finland celebrates equality and Minna Canth, an influential, trailblazing feminist writer and journalist. You can read more about her influence in Finnish history here.

Get to know Parliamentary Election Candidates in Snellmania on 16.3.

Welcome to the Parliamentary Election Fair in Kuopio organised by the Student Unions of the University of Eastern Finland and Savonia UAS! Come and get to know and discuss with the Parliamentary Election Candidates.

The event is organised on UEF campus in the Snellmania lobby on Thursday 16th March from 10 am until 2 pm. Maybe you'll find yourself a candidate to vote?

The Parties attending the Fair have been published on ISYY's website. All the Parties registered in Finland have been invited to the event.

Parliamentary Election Advance Voting in Studentia

NB! Every citizen of Finland who has reached the age of 18 not later than on the day of the election is entitled to vote in the Elections, despite the domicile.

The advance voting period of the Finnish Parliamentary elections begins already next week and the voting can be done on campus in Studentia-building, ISYY office (entrance from C-door). Opening hours of the voting station in Studentia:

Wed 22.3. - Fri 24.3. at 10-16
Mon 27.3. - Tue 28.3. at 10-16

To vote, it is necessary to present an identity document issued by the police. It can be an ID, passport, drivers licence or other document with a picture. It is also good to figure out in advance who you are going to vote for. You can check the candidate number at the voting station.

ISYY's Parliamentary Election Goals are now published!

The main focus in ISYY's goals are in the quality of education, in the wellbeing and poverty of students and in sustainable future.

Parliamentary Election Candidates can sign our goals and express that they are committed to them during the next parliamentary period. ISYY will publish the names and parties in the page as soon a candidate has signed our goals and we have checked the form. Before you vote, you can check from our website, which candidates have signed these goals.

Could you be a part of ISYY's May Day (Vappu) team?

The biggest celebration of the whole year for students, May Day aka Vappu, is just around the corner. But before that we need a team to build our Vappu events!

The most traditional parts of ISYY's vappu are the Savo-Karjala Excursion that will be held on 29th April on both campuses and the May Day Eve traditions that have their own specialities in both campus cities.

The application period to ISYY's May Day Teams is open until this week's Sunday 19.3.2023. Apply now so you will be a part of creating the big student celebration to our campus cities!

Upcoming themes in Coffee & Friends

During the spring, the “Coffee & Friends” is organised every Tuesday 4 pm-6 pm in Kuopio at Studentia’s chapel. “Coffee & Friends” is the students' living room, where you can rest after lectures, hang out with other students and enjoy a little snack. You can come to “Coffee & Friends” alone or with a friend.

Trip to Puijonlaakso and barbeque

The BRIDGES project also organises day trips to nearby nature for students. This time we are heading to Puijonlaakso in Kuopio on Wednesday 15.3. at 3 pm-5 pm to enjoy nature and barbeque.

Let's first gather together at Puijonsarvi (Puijonsarventie 63, 70260 Kuopio) at 3 pm, from where we walk together to a barbeque place.

The registration for the trip ends on 14th of March at 3 pm. Participating is free of charge, but you need to bring your own snacks to barbeque.

Note! Wear winter and weather-appropriate gear and choose shoes with good traction. You might need a flashlight/headlamp also.

BRIDGES breakfast 28.-30.3.

Come start your day with a nutritious breakfast and getting to know your fellow students, and you'll be energetic for the rest of the day!

Next breakfasts are organised on week 13 28.-30.3. in Snellmania restaurant. Breakfast starts at 8:15 am and ends at 9 am.

The registration starts in Kide.app on 14.3. at 12 noon. Participation is free of charge and there are seats for 13 people at a time.

Day trip to Koli on 1 April

Welcome to Ukko-Koli with the BRIDGES!

Departure is from the university, from the Studentia (Yliopistonranta 3, 70211 Kuopio) car park at 9.30 am and we arrive in Koli before noon. We travel by bus, which includes toilets. In Koli it is possible to move independently or in a group. It is also possible to go on a short hiking tour with ISYY, where we stop at the campfire site to barbeque sausages. The return starts at 5 pm. We are back at Lukema by 8 pm at the latest. The bus trips back and forth are free, but on-site activities such as meals etc. are at your own expense. The event can accommodate 50 students. We recommend the weather appropriate equipment and a little experience of hiking.

Day trip is open to all UEF students. Registration is open between the 7.3.-24.3. Please note that registration is required, for which you have to pay a deposit of 10 € + a service fee 0,5 € in advance. The deposit will be refunded after participating in the event, the service fee will not be refunded.

Cancellations at Studentia

On Wednesday 15.3. and Thursday 16.3. the sports hall as well as changing rooms are not in use from 4 pm onwards. The gym is open normally without the use of the changing rooms.
On Sunday 19.3. the sports hall is in use after 6.30 pm

Puijo Wolley Volleyball games at Studentia Wed 15.3. and Thu 16.3. starting at 6.30 pm

Come and see the game! Tickets are only 5 € if you buy the ticket from the door at Studentia and show your SYKETTÄ sticker from mobily app or from your card. Normal price for students is 15 €.

Free physical activity counselling for students

SYKETTÄ Kuopio University Sports Services’ new physical activity counselling service offers free and low-threshold individual counselling and support for students who do not exercise enough for their health and well-being, or who need advice on how to become more active in their everyday lives, or support in starting physical activity.

Physical activity counselling consists of a maximum of five meetings with a physical activity counsellor. The content of the meetings is planned according to the client's wishes and objectives. The aim of the counselling is to help the client to find a way of moving that they like and to increase their well-being in everyday life. The service is intended for students of UEF and does not require a SYKETTÄ sticker.

Student tutors for new international students: application period has been extended until 15 March!

As a student tutor, you will get to know new students, can practice your language skills (English or otherwise) and you will also get credits! Tutoring before your exchange studies is a good way to get oriented and practice networking, and tutoring after your exchange is an opportunity to continue gaining international experience during your studies. Language Café by Kompassi

This year's first language cafe will be held in collaboration with the Kuopio city library on Wed 15.3. at 4.15 pm. As part of the library's Satakielikuukausi -event month, the theme of the language cafe is 'books, authors and literature'. Come and get to know literary culture around the world!

Of course, you can also chat about different topics with the table leaders or learn a few sentences in different languages.

As part of the city library's satakielikuukausi - event, Settlement Puijola's Kompassi is organizing an art exhibition in the city main library by Arevik Muradian, the teacher of Kompassi's acrylic painting group!

Duration of the exhibition: 14.3. - 22.3.
Meet the artist: Arevik will be at the library on Thursday 16.3. from 2 to 4 p.m.

An employment service website covering North Karelia and North Savo regions. The service is created and maintained by the Student’s Eastern-Finland association.

If you would like to have something featured in the Weekly Feed, please send a short (max. 500 characters including spaces), informative description of the event/activity in English to either kv.kuopio@isyy.fi (Kuopio events) or kv.joensuu@isyy.fi (Joensuu events).
