Welcome to ISYY Association Days on 11th and 12th of October 2022!

ISYY is organising the traditional Association Days in October, in which Student Associations, ISYY clubs and Campus Associations present their activities and events!  ISYY Association Days are open for everybody and there's no entrance fee.

The event will be held on Tuesday 11th and Wednesday 12th of October from 10 am to 2 pm in Joensuu Carelia lobby. Come and find out what ISYY and associations close to it have to offer.

It’s also possible that you’ll find some new activities or maybe new hobbies from Association Days!

Hello! In this section you will find information about upcoming events and other activities of the BRIDGES project. I would like to remind you that the application for the BRIDGES team is open until 18.10. I really hope for feedback on this year's Wellbeing Week so that I can develop the event for the future. All wishes regarding the program are more than welcome! In addition, if you have considered starting a new hobby, but haven't found a company for it, then you should read the ad below about Hobby Buddy service.

SYKETTÄ Joensuu

SYKETTÄ includes sport services for the students and staff members at the University of Eastern Finland and Karelia University of Applied Sciences. You can see the prices for each sticker on the SYKETTÄ website and you can buy your sticker online or from the ISYY office. Remember to create a user account with your uef email before you try to buy a sticker or enroll to classes. Physical stickers are available to purchase at the ISYY office. Spring 2022 stickers are valid until 31.8.2022. Please follow our hygiene and safety instructions

Interested in volunteering work?

Volunteering work is a great opportunity to expand your competencies and acquire useful skills for working life.

In Kuopio you can do volunteering work for refugees and migrants at Kompassi and in Joensuu at Jomoni. In Joensuu you can also do volunteering work for LGBTQ+ issues at Pohjois-Karjalan Seta. If you can’t find anything suitable for you or you have another organization you’d like to volunteer for, you can contact YUFE Volunteering coordinator Marko Pietilä marko.pietilä@uef.fi.

What is my Student Association? 

Student Associations are independent, subject-specific associations. Student Associations gather together students who study the same subject, which allows for them to get to know their peers and work together in the field of student advocacy. It's a great way to meet new people and attend a variety of activities and events with people studying the same subject as you! 

Each Student Association has their own overalls colour, they are listed in ISYY's student calendars! You can watch this Youtube video to learn more about the Finnish higher education overall tradition.

ESN Joensuu International Dinner (21.10)!

ESN JOENSUU's legendary international dinner is back!!! Mark your calendars on October 21st of 2022 @ 6 pm onwards! International Dinner is a special event where you can enjoy tasty food and good company of other ESNers!! 

In order to take part in the International dinner, you’ll need to prepare a dish that preferably represents the food that is typical/common in your home country. All the food will be shared among the participants in a buffet-style feast! This is an amazing opportunity for you to both offer your fellow students a little taste of your own culture and also to try out some exotic new flavours yourself! Please prepare a (cardboard) sign with the name of the dish and the name of the country where it's from. Also write a list with all the ingredients used in the dish in case of allergies. There will also be a fun quiz and some music to dance along with!

There are only a limited number of spots available for this dinner party and the registration is compulsory.

Jokicon Board Game Convention

Jokicon 2022 is a Board Game Convention at the University of Eastern Finland's Aurora building's A-side (Yliopistokatu 2) from Saturday 22.10. to Sunday 23.10.! The event is organized by ISYY's Board Game Club: Joensuu Board Gamers (ISYY is the student union of the University of Eastern Finland). Jokicon is an alcohol-free event.

The event consists mostly of casual board gaming. The clubs board game library will be there for everyone to play, but you can also bring your own favorite board games! The event is held at the Aurora and its lecture rooms, which are perfect for playing board games, partly thanks to the large table space. Opening hours:

• Saturday 11:00-22:00
• Sunday 10:00-19:00.

It is not possible to cook food or stay at Aurora overnight. There are restaurants and shops within walking distance. Entrance fee: 3€/day or 5€/2days. (You can upgrade your one-day ticket to a two-day ticket by paying the difference.) It is recommended to have some indoor shoes/slippers with you.

International House Joensuu goes Luotsi! 

Meet International House Joensuu’s Integration Adviser at Luotsi! We are there on Wednesdays (starting at 14.9.2022), from 10:00-12:00. You don’t need an appointment. We can help you, if you have moved to Joensuu from abroad and you have questions related to:

• general information and guidance on day-to-day life in Joensuu
• you need information about the services in Joensuu
• residence permits and applying for Finnish citizenship

If necessary, we can also book an appointment to our office at Malmikatu 5b, 4th floor.

New courses in career & job seeking skills

The UEF Career Services offers courses on career planning and job seeking. They are open to all bachelor’s and master’s degree students. Starting from spring 2023, each 1-ECTS course will be available in English twice a year. This academic year, they will belaunched as follows:

UEF students, develop your study and working-life skills in online trainings!

“Keys to Well-being – 5 Steps towards Future Work Skills” online trainings are designed to improve self-management skills, which are increasingly important in the changing world of work and study. Transformation of work requires new skills and competences: time and self-management skills, resilience and adaptability, collaboration skills, new ways of thinking, taking care of well-being and finding meaning in our work.

The online trainings consist of short videos as well as in-depth trainings. The trainings can be accessed flexibly at any time that suits you. They are free of charge to UEF staff and students, and they are available until January 31, 2023. Weekly Feed provides you with current information on matters related to the Student Union, UEF or other organisations close to students, such as FSHS. In addition, the newsletter provides you with information on events taking place at campus or the campus city.
