Apply as a UEF Student Representative 2024-2025!

The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) is now accepting applications for student representative positions to the University Board, the University Collegiate Body, and Faculty Councils of the University of Eastern Finland for the term 2024-2025.

Apply by filling the electronic form by 3.10.2023 at 12 pm (noon).

What does these bodies do?

UEF Board is the university's highest decision-making body, which, among other things, approves the budget for faculties and university support activities, monitors the implementation of UEF's strategy and approves the performance agreement between UEF and the Ministry of Education and Culture.

UEF Collegiate Body, among other things, determines the size of the University Board and the length of its term, elects the non-academic members of the University Board and approve the University’s financial statement and annual report.

Faculty Council's functions are, among other things, to process and issue statements on the Faculty’s strategic plan, budget and the Faculty’s internal structure. The Faculty Council also e.g. review doctoral dissertations and set syllabuses, degree requirements and admission criteria.

What is a Student Representative?

As a Student Representative in UEF Administation you promote students’ point of view in the decision-making and also bring matters that are important for students into public debate. They also have a right to make proposals and motions in the bodies.

In UEF administration, you can gain valuable experience in administrative and advocacy work and managing matters of common concern. Student Representatives can also earn ECTS’s after the working period.

Representatives will receive a monetary compensation for participating in the meetings of these administrative bodies!

If your first language is not Finnish, UEF will organise interpretation services for you.

SYY will organise a Representative Council election info on 26 September 2023 remotely on Google Meet at 4.15 pm.

ISYY Club Sustainable Lifestyle UEF: Get to know us

Sustainable Lifestyle UEF wants to invite all students to participate in our first event of the semester: Get to know us! We want to offer an open discussion about sustainability and our future events. Also, you can join one of our working groups and/or the board. The event is free of charge for all participants. See you there!

Sports afternoon 4.10.2023

Sports afternoon of autumn 2023 will be held on Wednesday 4.10.2023. The UEF and Karelia UAS hold a sports afternoon together and by the decision of the university rectors, the sports afternoon is lecture-free from 12:15pm. On sports afternoon, a wide variety of different exercise options are available for students and staff members. SYKETTÄ sticker is not required to participate in sports afternoon.

All classes and turns in SYKETTÄ sports calendar on 4.10. are also included in the sports afternoon schedule. To participate in classes and turns in the sports calendar, you don't have to have a valid SYKETTÄ sticker, but you must be registered as a user and enroll on classes and turns.

The autumn 2023 sports afternoon schedule is now published! The schedule is still being updated after the publication and changes to the schedule may be possible. Enrollment times are event-specific.

Offers during the Wellbeing week

We have arranged special offers in campus restaurants to celebrate Wellbeing Week. The offers are valid Mon-Fri 2.-610.2023.

• Morning porridge for only 1 € (incl. butter eye) at Snellmania and Canthia at 7.45-9.00 am. To redeem the offer, show your appro pass or say "Wellbeing Week" at the cashier.

WellbeingAppro

In celebration of the 10th anniversary, for the first time, a WellbeingAppro will be organised, where participants will collect stamps for their passes from activities, program and offers during the week. Three (3) stamps must be collected between 2.-7.10.

You can collect the appro pass from ISYY's office during 18.9.-2.10. The passes are limited. Those who return the full pass, gets an overall badge and have a chance to participate in a raffle, where the prize is wellbeing product gift basket.

Joensuu Entrepreneurship Society (JoES) is a locally-run bilingual society that operates in the world between studies and work. We create and take part in interesting projects while also building and maintaining a community of entrepreneurially-minded people.

The application round for YUFE exchanges in spring 2024 will be open in September! Application is open 11 Sept to 10 Oct.

You can apply if you have a valid YUFE Student Journey right or if you are planning to complete a YUFE Minor. Check out Kamu for more information about YUFE exchange and list of YUFE Minors!

If you are not able to participate and would still like to run for a position, you can send a one minute long video to us where you tell us why you should be elected at esnjoensuu@esnfinland.eu You can also sign up as an active member and help out whenever you have the time.

Don't be scared if you feel that you don't know anything about ESN! We'll have training and a hangout soon after the General Meeting so all of us could get-to-know each other better and have the best time this semester.

Do you like to sing but don´t like performing alone?

The representative choir of UEF is holding auditions on 25th of September. We are looking for new singers to join our lovely members. You don´t have to be a university student to join, so feel free to invite your friends as well. The audition will be held at the university in Agora building. In the audition we for example check which voice group you would go to. More info and links to registration can be found from our Facebook event.

We will hike in the mountains, cruise through some amazing fjords, walk on beautiful beaches and chill in small cozy fishing villages. ESN Joensuu goes Saariselkä, Northern Lapland (2.12.-7.12.2023)

Wanna cross a visit to Lapland off your bucket list?

Join ESN Joensuu as we are going far beyond the Arctic Circle to experience the real Finnish winter in the northernmost ski resort of Europe in Saariselkä, the place which has ski slopes open sometimes even in June! 

Visit the real Santa in the Santa Claus Village in Rovaniemi, take selfies with the reindeers at a farm, enjoy the beautiful Arctic landscape and if you are lucky, the mesmerizing Northern lights! There is also a wide range of winter sports you can try – everything from adventurous snowshoeing and skiing to husky sledding, and even swimming in the Arctic Ocean. The group will be accommodated in atmospheric cottages on the slope of the Kaunispää-mountain, which is a perfect place for spotting the Aurora Borealis!
