• If you're passionate about languages, join ISYY's online Language Café info on Thursday 18 January at 9 am to learn about the Language Café activities.
• As an ISYY member, you can borrow sports equipment, such as ice skates, from the ISYY office. Check out Joensuu's selection here. • January in Finland can be quite chilly, so remember to dress appropriately if you're spending time outdoors! Here is a video you can watch about how to tackle the cold by layering clothes.

Vote in advance on campus!

The Finnish Presidential Election will be held 28 January 2024 and the advance voting will begin already next week. There will be advance polling stations available on both UEF campuses, Joensuu and Kuopio, during the advance voting. 

To have a right to vote, you must be a citizen of Finland, who has reached the age of 18. 

Using your right to vote can be done during your study day!

The advance polling station in Joensuu campus can be found from Carelia lobby and it is open:

• 17.-19.1. at 10-17
• and 22.-23.1. at 10-18. 

ISYY Board will organise a voting event for the beginning of advance voting on Wednesday! We encourage all students to come to vote together right when the advance voting begins. ISYY Board will be serving coffee and finnish pulla (sweet bun) from 10 am to 12 pm.

UEF: Registration to the Doctoral Conferment Ceremony in Joensuu 6.-8.6.2024 is open! 

The Doctoral Conferment Ceremony is a way for the University of Eastern Finland to show its appreciation for persons who have completed a doctoral degree. For doctorate holders, on the other hand, the Ceremony is an opportunity to celebrate their academic achievements.

Registration to this spring’s Ceremony in Joensuu is open until the end of February.

The three-day doctoral conferment festivities involve a number of events where student marshals’ help is indispensable. Serving as a marshal is a task of honour. Applying for the position of student marshal is also open.

JEIS Get to Know Each Other -party (24.1) 

The new semester is here! 

Whether you have just arrived in Joensuu and you are looking to have a good time from the very beginning, or you are continuing your studies here, this event is just for you!

JEIS - Joensuu's Exchange and International Students welcomes you to our Get to Know Each Other Party which - as the name suggests - is the perfect way to have a great time and make new friends! We will have the whole of Bepop for ourselves on Wednesday 24th January  between 7 pm and 10 pm. The Get to Know Each Other -Bingo starts at 7.30 pm, after which there will also be a chance to take part in karaoke, and we will be having a DJ. The fun times continue through the night even after the place opens to the public.

Psst..! Make sure to come early so you don’t miss our bingo - there’s a good chance you can win some amazing prizes! See you there!

Open board positions

• President is the glue keeping our lovely club going - they are responsible for example calling all meetings, preparing agendas and making sure everything runs smoothly. As a President of an ISYY club, ISYY membership is required to apply for this position.
• Vice President acts as the left hand of the President and as the contact person for ESN Finland. Vice President can for example run meetings if a President is not able to attend. ISYY membership is required to apply for this position.
• Treasurer & Trip Coordinator & Secretary handles all monetary issues and keeps contact with Timetravels
• 1-2 Communication Managers are responsible for all marketing and communication, especially in social media
• 1-2 Event Managers coordinate, plan and execute all events
• Photographer and Graphic Designer take photos and design the visuals for marketing events

How can I apply? 

The elected board will be active for the spring semester 2024. We will train all of our new board members, so there's no need to worry if you don't know everything!

If you would like to apply for one or more positions in the board, please prepare a ONE MINUTE SPEECH telling about yourself and why you should be chosen for the role. If you are not able to participate and would still like to run for the position, you can send a one minute long video to us where you tell us why you should be elected at esnjoensuu@esnfinland.eu.

Psst..! If board member duties are not for you but you'd like to help with organising events, you can also apply to join as an active member in the General Meeting.

Remember to take your ESNCard or student card (Frank) with you if you want to vote or apply to become a board member of JEIS!

AEGEE-Joensuu's Local Agora (aka General Meeting) will take place on Thursday 25.01 at 17.00 in AU206 (Aurora building). Come along to learn about our activities - and this is your chance to join our board too!
