The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) will organise an Independence Day Torch Parade in Joensuu on December 6th 2023, starting at 4 pm.
The Torch Parade is one of the oldest and most beautiful academic traditions of the Student Union.
– Student Union’s Torch Parade is a highly honoured celebration tradition, that respects our important Finnish Independence Day. All the citizens are warmly welcome to follow the parade, says ISYY Executive Board’s Vice Chair Julia Lautala.
The Parade will depart from the ISYY campus office at Haltia (Yliopistokatu 7) at 4 pm and proceed through the city centre to the memorial grounds, where a ceremony will be held at 4.30 pm. UEF’s Choir Joy will perform at the memorial. The ceremony will also feature a speech by Julia Lautala, Vice Chair of the ISYY Executive Board, and lastly a joint Finnish National Anthem accompanied the Joy choir.
ISYY welcomes the public to follow the Parade at the city centre and at the memorial grounds.
The Student Union will also organise an Independence Day Torch Parade at the Kuopio campus.
