The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland
29.11.2024
The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) will organise an Independence Day Torch Parade in Joensuu on 6 December 2024, starting at 4 pm.
The Torch Parade is one of the oldest and most beautiful academic traditions of the Student Union.
– The Torch Parade is a unique event that creates a sense of community and highlights the significance of this important national celebration. It is a shared moment for students and other city residents, where we celebrate Finland and its independence, says ISYY Executive Board’s Vice Chair Noora Saramäki.
The Parade will depart from the ISYY campus office at Haltia (Yliopistokatu 7) at 4 pm and proceed through the city centre to the memorial grounds, where a ceremony will be held at 4.30 pm. UEF’s Choir Joy will perform at the memorial. The ceremony will also feature a speech by Noora Saramäki, Chair of the Joensuu Campus Board, and lastly a joint Finnish National Anthem accompanied the Joy choir.
ISYY welcomes the public to follow the Parade at the city centre and at the memorial grounds.
The Student Union will also organise an Independence Day Torch Parade at the Kuopio campus.
