Municipal and County Election Events for Higher Education Students in Eastern Finland

The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY), the Student Union of Karelia University of Applied Sciences (POKA), the Student Union of Savonia University of Applied Sciences (SAVOTTA), and the Student Union of Humak University of Applied Sciences (HUMAKO) are organizing municipal and county election events for higher education students in Eastern Finland in March and April.

The municipal and county elections will be held simultaneously on Sunday 13 April 2025. Advance voting is open from 2-8 April 2025.

Why cast a vote?

By casting a vote, you can influence who will decide on important matters that affect everyone's everyday lives for the next four years.

• In the county elections, voters will elect representatives for county councils. County councils are responsible for organizing social and health services and rescue services in wellbeing services counties.
• In the municipal elections, voters will elect representatives for municipal councils, which decide on the municipality's activities and finances.

• Election Fair in Joensuu on 25 March 2025, from 11-13, University of Eastern Finland, Carelia, Yliopistokatu 4, 80100 Joensuu.
• Election Fair in Kuopio on 25 March 2025, from 11-13, University of Eastern Finland, Snellmania, Yliopistonranta 1, 70600 Kuopio.

Election Panels

• Election Panel in Joensuu, in collaboration with the Student Union of Karelia Applied Sciences (POKA), on 1 April 2025, from 13:00-16:00, University of Eastern Finland, Aurora AU206, Yliopistokatu 2, 80100 Joensuu.
• Election Fair and Panel in Kuopio, in collaboration with the student unions of Savonia Applied Sciences (SAVOTTA) and Humak Applied Sciences (HUMAKO), on 27 March 2025, from 11-12:45, Savonia University of Applied Sciences, Campus heart, Building D, Microkatu 1, 70210 Kuopio.

The election panel will address topics that are important to higher education students, such as climate and environmental issues, housing, cultural services, transportation, employment, and well-being. The election panels are open to everyone. The election panels are organized in collaboration with the local student unions POKA, HUMAKO, and SAVOTTA.

Advance Voting Events

• Advance Voting Event in Joensuu on 2 April 2025, from 12:00-13:00, Aurora B-building, Yliopistokatu 2, 80100 Joensuu.
• Advance Voting Event in Kuopio on 2 April 2025, from 12:00-13:00, University of Eastern Finland, Studentia, Yliopistonranta 15, 70600 Kuopio.

Come vote in advance and have election coffee together with fellow students! Let's join forces to vote on the advance voting day 2 April 2025, at 12:00 at Studentia in Kuopio and Aurora in Joensuu. The fastest voters will receive an overall patch, coffee, and tea. It is recommended to bring your own reusable mug!

Vote in advance on campus

Voting in advance is possible on both campuses. In Joensuu, the advance voting point will be in the lobby of the Aurora B-building, and in Kuopio at Studentia. Advance voting is recommended as it is much more flexible than voting on election day. You should plan your voting time in advance, as you can vote in advance at any voting point, whereas on election day you must use the location assigned to you in your home municipality.
