The 12th Annual Celebration of the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) was held 29th October 2022 in Kuopio. At the Celebration ISYY awarded distinguished Student Union actors according to its Symbol Regulations. This year were awarded nine Medals of Honour, five Golden Medals of Distinction, seven Silver Medals of Distinction and 20 Medals of the Student Union. In addition to the awarded Medals the Student Union awarded also 19 Diploma of Honour.
This year we were celebrating the 12-year-old ISYY but also the 50-years of Student Union history in Kuopio. For the honour of our long history in Kuopio, the Medals of Honour were awarded this year to persons who have acted very meritoriously already in our former Student Unions, the Student Union of Kuopio University (KYY) and the Student Union of the Kuopio School of Economics (KUKKOY). Over the years, the awarded persons have tirelessly promoted the culture and traditions of the Student Union and supported the entry of younger actors into the student life in Kuopio. Among the recipients are, for example, people who have, to this day, shaped our traditional May Day events like Sivistykseen vihkiminen and Savo-Karjala Excursion, which both are a part of our activities still today. This year, the following people were awarded with the Medals of Honour:
In connection with the awarded Medals of Honour, we also feel it is important to mention Sirpa Risto, who has had an extensive and still continuing career with the Student Union. Like the recipients of this year's medals, she has been involved in maintaining our culture for several decades. Sirpa Risto has an acknowledgement from ISYY in the past. In the picture below, Sirpa Risto, Risto Lähteenmäki and Pasi Hämäläinen are placing the KYY flag in the celebration hall.
According to ISYY's Symbol Regulations the Golden Medal of Distinction can be awarded as an acknowledgement for a person's highly meritorious and productive actions towards the Student Union. The Silver Medal of Distinction can be awarded as an acknowledgement for a person's meritorious and productive actions towards the Student Union. The Medal of the Student Union can be awarded for a person, who has enhanced Student Union's actions, good spirit and culture with their actions. And lastly, the Diploma of Honour can be awarded to a person, who has acted in student or campus association, ISYY club or in other close organisation, and enhanced Student Unions visibility, the cooperation between the different study fields, or has worked for our students interest advocacy in some other way.
