City Orienteering in September 2021

City Orienteering will start the academic year of all new students at UEF on September 8th and 9th 2021 for the tenth time! This year we are not organising the traditional Campus Crash due to the pandemic. The event will also be divided for two days, which means the teams can choose the day that they will be attending.

The Orienteering this year will be organised almost as usual, but there will also be virtual orienteering spots, as there were last year. The City Orienteering (kaupunkisuunnistus) is an event in which students will go around their campus city in groups with their tutor and complete different kinds of tasks given to them. Come and mingle with other new students, have your team photo taken and participate in raffles!

The event is organised by the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) and the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY).

Team costumes

We are happy to encourage your team to create some kind of a theme for your orienteering outfits! When you come to get your orienteering maps and overall patches from the starting point, there will be an official photo wall for the City Orienteering. 

Registration for new students

The registration for new students starts on Friday 3rd of September 12 pm and it will be closing on Wednesday 8th of September 12 pm. The tutor will register the team via Kide.app to the date and time that you want. The team can be registered also by contacting Riina Pääkkönen (Joensuu, riina.paakkonen(at)isyy.fi) or Ada Hyytiäinen (Kuopio, jarjestoasiantuntija(at)isyy.fi). 

There can be 10 new students plus 1 tutor in the team.

Instructions: Orienteering Starts for new students 8.-9.9. in Joensuu from 3.30 pm to 6 pm (starts every 5 minutes)

1. Get your teams orienteering map and overall patches (at that exact time, that your team has registered) from the starting point, which is located outside of the Carelia-building, near the "Alkukivet" sculpture (Yliopistokatu 4, Joensuu).
    
2. When you have the map and patches you can go to the official City Orienteering photo wall and take a team picture! Your tutor can take the picture and by downloading it to the Facebook-event of Joensuu your whole team will take part in the UEF-raffle!
    
3. Every group can accomplish as many orienteering tasks as they wish in no particular order on the day that they have chosen (and registered). Your tutor can also join you! Remember to keep safety distances to other groups e.g. if you are waiting for your turn at the orienteering spot. The orienteering spots will be closed on both days at 8 pm.
    
4. There will also be virtual orienteering spots, which means that there are no people waiting for you at the spot, but there is an orienteering poster with a QR-code that you need to scan with your phone. Virtual spots can be accomplished also after 8 pm.
    
5. RAFFLE IN INSTAGRAM:
   Post a picture (or a video) from the City Orienteering during the event (8.-9.9.2021) on Instagram. Use the hashtag #cityorienteering2021 (or #kaupunkisuunnistus2021) and tag @isyyuef and you will take part in the raffle, where you can win a gift card to restaurant Kerubi (3x 80€ gift cards). In this raffle, we will also give away 10 ISYY Straight Outta Itä-Suomi -bags. The winners of the raffle will be drawn on 10th of September and we will get in touch with the winners via Instagram message.
    
6. RAFFLE IN FACEBOOK:
   Download a picture of your team taken with the official photo wall to the Facebook-event of Joensuu an your whole team will be a part of the raffle, where you can win UEF-bags. The winner team will be drawn on 10th of September and we will contact the winner team by commenting the picture post in the event.

1. Get your teams orienteering map and overall patches (at that exact time that your theam has been registered) from the starting point, which is located outside of Lukema, in front of the Studentia-building (Yliopistonranta 3 C, Kuopio).
    
2. When you have the map and patches you can go to the official City Orienteering photo wall and take a team picture! Your tutor can take the picture and by downloading it to the Facebook-event of Kuopio your whole team will take a part in the UEF-raffle!
    
3. Every group can accomplish as many orienteering tasks as they wish in no particular order on the day that they have chosen (and registered). Your tutor can also join you! Instruction for other students

Older Students can attend the event on 9th of September. The registration fee for the team is 30 € (for six students) and the registration includes 1 orienteering map and overall patches. The registration starts on Friday 3rd of September 12 pm and it will be closing on Wednesday 8th of September 12 pm.
