The Student Union of the Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) Representative Council elected Chairpersons and Executive Board for the year 2024 in their formative meeting that was held 23.11.2023.
The Student Union elected Mirka Nieminen as the Chair of the ISYY Executive Board. Nieminen studies social work at the University of Eastern Finland in Kuopio campus and during this year has worked as a member of the ISYY Board in the sector of social policy.
The other nine elected Board Members are the Vice Chair Noora Saramäki, Emmi Vetikko, Jaana Sivula-Wesselhoft, Jasmin Tuomi, Julia Tenhunen, Laura Appelqvist, Miika Hiltunen, Ruska Itkonen and Sari Törrönen.
– I am grateful for the trust that I received from ISYY Council. I’m excited that next year we get to begin the work with this elected Board, that is versatile and competent, and also that we collectively get to further our Student Union’s actions, comments the Chair of next year’s Executive Board Mirka Nieminen.
The Board is responsible for the daily activities of the Student Union together with the employees in Joensuu and Kuopio campus. Each member of the Executive Board has a specific sector they work with, e.g. Academic Affairs, Communications, International Affairs and Affairs of Social Policy.
The duties of the Executive Board are e.g., student advocacy and interest advocacy, in the Student Union, at the University, campus cities and also nationally with other student unions. The newly elected Board will appoint their working sectors in their first formative meeting.
As the Student Union’s Chairperson, meaning the Chair of the ISYY Council, has been elected Julia Lautala. Lautala is studying educational studies at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu campus. During the current year Julia has worked as the Vice Chair of the ISYY Board.
– It is great to get to work with the new ISYY Council to make our Student Union a better place. Next year we have on our table a lot of important papers, that guides ISYY’s actions, to be updated. With my work I want to further the Council’s activities to be more accessible and conversational. Additionally, I want to get to know the members of the Council well, so that working together on big decisions goes smoothly, says Julia Lautala.
As the first Vice Chair of the ISYY Council was elected Eetu Hyvönen and as the second Jimi Viita-aho. The Representative Council is the highest decision making body of ISYY and it consists of 39 students elected with the Representative Council elections.
