The Student Union of the Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) Representative Council elected Chairpersons and Executive Board for the year 2025 in their meeting that was held 4.12.2024.
The Student Union elected Noora Saramäki as the Chair of the ISYY Executive Board. Saramäki studies early childhood education at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu campus and during this year has worked as a member of the ISYY Board as the Vice Chair.
The other nine elected Board Members are the Vice Chair Miika Hiltunen, Emilia Enroth, Antton Gustafsson, Nox Herranen, Emilia Kivikoski, Kristiina Oinonen, Piritta Pennanen, Jaana Sivula ja Lassi Valli.
– I am immensely grateful for the trust I have received and the opportunity to serve as the Chair of the Student Union Board for the coming year. I look forward to working with a professional team. My goal is to develop the Student Union’s activities to be even more student-centered and influential both in our campus cities and nationally, comments the Chair of next year’s Executive Board Noora Saramäki.
The Board is responsible for the daily activities of the Student Union together with the employees in Joensuu and Kuopio campus. Each member of the Executive Board has a specific sector they work with, e.g. Academic Affairs, Communications, International Affairs and Affairs of Social Policy.
The duties of the Executive Board are e.g., student advocacy and interest advocacy, in the Student Union, at the University, campus cities and also nationally with other student unions. The newly elected Board will appoint their working sectors in their first formative meeting.
As the Student Union’s Chairperson, meaning the Chair of the ISYY Council, has been elected Ville-Pekka Timonen. Timonen is studying psychology at the University of Eastern Finland in Joensuu campus. During the current year Ville-Pekka has been a member of the ISYY Representative Council.
– In the coming year, the Student Union’s main task will be to keep student issues on the agenda in the municipal elections and to strengthen the importance of membership. I look forward to leading the Student Council in these and many other important issues, says Ville-Pekka Timonen.
As the first Vice Chair of the ISYY Council was elected Janina Gunnar and as the second Maija Kuivalainen. The Representative Council is the highest decision making body of ISYY and it consists of 39 students elected with the Representative Council elections.
