The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) has decided to nominate a Master's Student in Biomedicine Pauliina Ryökäs as a candidate for the Board of the Finnish Student Union (SYL) for the year 2023. ISYY's Representative Council made the decision at their meeting on 29th September 2022.
Pauliina Ryökäs, 27, has been a member of the ISYY Executive Board in 2021–2022 and a member of the ISYY Representative Council in 2019–2020. In the Executive Board Ryökäs has worked on social policy and academic affairs and promoted the work-life activities of the Student Union.
- I am grateful for the trust that our Representative Council demonstrated. During the previous years, I have increased my passion and knowledge, which I want to utilize in the fight for students' better future, says Ryökäs.
Important themes for Pauliina are the quality and accessibility of education as well as securing the well-being of students. In addition to ISYY, Ryökäs serves as a resident representative on the board of Kuopio Student Housing Company (Kuopas) and as a student representative and vice-chairman on the board of the Eastern Region of the Finnish Student Health Services (FSHS).
- The students are in a weak position at the moment. Students deserve functioning health care, the opportunity to have versatile meals, and a livelihood that guarantees a decent life. Next year, I want us to do even stronger, more planned and more unified student advocacy together with SYL and the student unions, Ryökäs aligns.
Pauliina is known in ISYY and in Student Associations as a person who boldly defends students's rights and advocates for them
- I have worked with Pauliina in the ISYY Executive Board since the beginning of 2021. Pauliina is a passionate, solution-, and action oriented person with a lot of views and knowledge. I believe that Pauliina has a lot to give to the entire university student movement, says the Chairperson of ISYY Executive Board Sami Tanskanen.
SYL represents Finnish university students at the national level and promotes their interests. SYL's board for 2023 will be elected at the General Assembly 18.-19.11.2022. ISYY is represented at the General Assembly with its own delegation.
