According to the Education Regulations of the University of Eastern Finland, which came into effect on 1 January 2024, the university has a steering group for education appointed by the Rector. Its tasks “is to prepare and monitor the university’s strategic policies related to teaching, to discuss the university’s common policies on studies and teaching, and to promote and monitor the quality of teaching, guidance and learning.” According to the Education Regulations, the steering group for education must include student representation, which is appointed by the Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland. (Education Regulations, Section 3). The steering group for education is chaired by the Vice Rector for Education.
ISYY is seeking one (1) student representative to the steering group for education and one (1) deputy representative for the term 2025. This is a new student representation position for which ISYY appoints a representative. The steering group for education meets approximately once a month during semesters. A meeting fee is paid for participation. The working language of the group is Finnish. In addition, after the term of office, the representative can apply for 1–2 ECTS credits for participating in administrative and group work.
Eligible students are students who have the right to complete a master’s or bachelor’s degree or licentiate or doctoral degree at the University of Eastern Finland, or students who have the right to study as alumni students. As this is a strategically and administratively significant representative position, the student representative is expected to have a thoughtful and well-founded perspective, as well as experience in education policy, university decision-making, and promoting the position of students. Previous experience in student representation roles is considered an advantage.
