The Student Union of the University of Eastern Finland (ISYY) operates on all three campuses of the University of Eastern Finland: Joensuu, Kuopio and Savonlinna. ISYY’s members include all students doing a bachelor or master’s degree at University of Eastern Finland (UEF). The membership is based on law. Also postgraduate students can join the Student Union (SU).
SU’s main tasks include the supervision of its members interests and offering services. ISYY’s operations have been divided into four sectors: educational policy, social policy, recreation and organisational affairs. Recreation sector includes international affairs, sports, culture and environmental and development cooperation.
Becoming a member
You can join the Student Union by paying the SU’s membership fee. You will find more information on how to join the SU under How to become a member.
The SU membership fee is a kind of basic security for students. By paying the membership fee, students are entitled to the services of the Finnish Student Health Service (YTHS) as well as to different kinds of student discounts and the services offered by the Student Union (ISYY).
Goals and activities
ISYY’s goal is to promote the social and personal interests and aims of its 13,000 members. We also offer our members several services and a community where everyone can follow their own interests.
ISYY’s members also members of the National Union of the University Students in Finland (SYL) and the Finnish Student Sports Federation (OLL). SYL represents all Finnish university students in the fields of national politics and other organisations. On a local level, ISYY focuses on the interests of the students in relation to UEF, the campus cities, SYL, the Social Insurance Institution of Finland (Kela) and the Ministry of Education and Culture.
